Referrals and Fees
Referrals
Patients can be referred for psychological assessment and treatment through the Medicare Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from a General Practitioner. Patients referred through this scheme are eligible to receive up to 10 sessions, subsidised by Medicare, per calendar year. Regular review with the referring doctor is required with this service.

You do not need to have a referral from a GP or other doctor to see a psychologist. You may elect to use your private health insurance or pay the fee in full without any rebate of fees. Private health insurance (with Psychology extras) may cover psychology consultations, although the rebate will vary according to your fund. Please note that you are only able to claim each consultation from either Medicare (with a Mental Health Treatment Plan) or your Private Health Insurance, not both.

Face-to-face and Telehealth (phone, Skype, Facetime) sessions are available.
